Samsung Galaxy S24 series arrived with Galaxy AI backed by Google’s Gemini Nano. It soon trickled down to other Galaxy smartphones and will soon cover offerings from 2022 and 2021 phones as well. With that, the South Korean giant is planning to introduce the Galaxy S25 series with something even bigger – Google Gemini Nano 2.
Galaxy AI became a major selling point for the S24 series. You must have seen ads and videos of people finding things simply by drawing to search and beyond. Samsung also added a bunch of other AI tools including language translation and text generation.
Upgrading to Gemini Nano 2, the second iteration of Gemini Nano, will open floodgates on the Galaxy S25 series to do just about anything. The news comes from a reputed source – Nguyen Phi Hung via X (formerly Twitter) and Daum Herald Economy quoting Cho Cheol-min (Executive Director – Samsung Electronics’ System LSI) who reportedly discussed the major upgrade at a forum recently.
It is surprising given Google hasn’t divulged any information about its upgraded large language model (Gemini Nano 2). It is currently under wrap and thus, we aren’t aware of its capabilities just yet. There are reports about improved image processing and voice recognition in the air although that remains to be confirmed.
Samsung Galaxy S25 series is heading for its big launch in early 2025 as usual. Its Galaxy AI is likely to charge some subscription fee as per what we saw when the S24 series was released with a note about it being free only for a year. Upgrading to Gemini Nano 2 will bring a lot of new capabilities although we will have to wait for some more time to get our head wrapped around it.
