Apple announced the new iPad Air models this month, and they definitely look cool, but do you really need one? Chances are all of your tablet computing could be handled by a 2022 iPad Air, which is a huge $200 off at Amazon right now. In our review of the M1-powered Air, we said that “if you’re looking for a do-it-all tablet with top-notch accessories, the 2022 iPad Air is the best choice in Apple’s tablet lineup—and a better bet than any Android tablet,” and gave it an Editors’ Choice award. Apple Pencil 2 compatibility, ridiculously light weight and powerful performance make this a huge bargain for the money.
Sony is known for high-quality screens, and the OLED Bravia model is a really good pick. In our review, we gave it an “Excellent” rating and called it “a striking, vivid OLED TV with plenty of features that benefits from both the Google TV platform and support for Apple AirPlay 2.” It’s extremely user-friendly and simple to set up and get connected to your streaming services, and multiple ports let you wire in consoles and your home stereo. Picture quality is exceptional, with high dynamic range content in HDR10, Dolby Vision, and hybrid log gamma (HLG). With a refresh rate of 120Hz, it’s great for gaming, and it will thrive in home theaters due to its vivid colors.

The technology that powers Amazon’s Kindle line is a real marvel. It’s versatile, durable, and takes a shockingly tiny amount of power. If you’re the kind of person who loves to scribble in the margins and underline important passages, the Kindle Scribe takes the experience to a whole new level. Using the included pen, you can write and draw on the 16-tone grayscale 10.2-inch E Ink screen. While it’s not designed for artists, it’s fast and responsive enough that it feels great to use. In our review, we said it was “biggest and most attractive ebook reader we’ve seen yet, easily standing at the top of the Kindle heap.”
We’re not going to gas you up here: this is not a laptop that will dazzle anybody with features and performance. On the other hand, it’s 39 dollars. That’s just a ridiculous price for a portable computer, even if it only sports 16GB of storage, a 1.6GHz AMD A4 9120C processor and 4GB of RAM. It’s a great pick for a kid getting online for the first time, or an elderly relative who clicks on every malware link that they see. Hell, at this price you could probably tile your kitchen counter with them.
