Facebook has a new way to track your activity, which it’s marketing as a way to help you keep tabs on the various things that float by in your News Feed. The feature, dubbed Link History, will give you a rundown of all the links you’ve clicked on from your Facebook News Feed on mobile. “When link history is on, any links you’ve tapped inside of Facebook and visited in Facebook’s Mobile Browser will be saved…for 30 days,” Facebook says.Meta is not just helping you stay organized in the New Year. This data may also be used “to improve your ads across Meta technologies,” the company says. This doesn’t apply to links from Facebook Messenger chats and is only available on the Facebook iOS or Android apps for now. “This feature is being introduced globally over time and may not be available in your location,” Facebook says. The rollout was first noticed by Gizmodo, which came across it via an in-app pop-up advertising Link History as a way to “never lose a link again.” Gizmodo says the feature is on by default, and the screenshot it posted has Link History toggled to on. But when we navigated to it using the directions on Facebook’s FAQ, Link History was off by default on iOS and Android.A Meta spokesperson tells PCMag “Link History is not on by default – people must enable this feature, and they can change their Link History settings in Browser Settings at any time.”To check it out yourself:

When Link History is turned off, Facebook “will immediately clear your link history, and you will no longer be able to see any links you’ve visited.” Your Link History will also no longer be used to tailor ads, though it could take up to 90 days for that info to be wiped.Of course, even if you don’t turn on Link History, Facebook is still keeping tabs on how you use the service.
