The online community is buzzing with excitement following the revelation that Ford has filed a patent for the highly anticipated all-new Endeavour. Despite making its global debut in 2022, the third-generation Ford Endeavour never reached Indian shores due to Ford’s suspension of vehicle production in 2021. However, the recent filing of a design patent for the new Endeavour in India suggests a potential revival of sales operations by Ford in the country, particularly in the large SUV segment.

Ford India Job Opportunities
Amidst growing anticipation, Ford has ignited further speculation by posting a series of new job opportunities in locations like Chennai. These developments hint at a potential revival of vehicle assembly operations by Ford. The majority of these job listings focus on technical roles, suggesting the automaker’s interest in resuming activities at its Chennai factory.
Ford Rivals
Despite successfully selling its Sanand plant to Tata Motors in 2022, Ford has faced challenges in finding a buyer for its Chennai facility. Despite rumors involving car manufacturers like MG, VinFast, and Tata Motors expressing interest in acquiring the plant, no concrete developments have emerged. Notably, Ford’s deal with MG reportedly fell through, prompting the company to reconsider the sale.
The potential success of the job openings for its Chennai manufacturing facility could mark Ford’s return to vehicle production at the plant after an approximately three-year hiatus. Ford had halted vehicle manufacturing and sales in India in 2021, citing losses exceeding $2 billion since the commencement of operations in 1996. Despite this, Ford clarified that it was not exiting the Indian market but rather undertaking a strategic business restructuring. This restructuring involved discontinuing its existing vehicle lineup, which comprised models like Figo, Aspire, Freestyle, Ecosport, and the second-generation Endeavour.

In the event that the resurgence reports prove accurate, Ford is poised to re-enter the Indian car market with the third-generation Endeavour, expected around 2025. There are indications that Ford may consider local assembly of the Endeavour at its Chennai facility. This inclination towards local assembly gains significance as Ford has opted not to proceed with discussions with JSW for the potential transfer of the facility.
Ford Endeavour Features
There’s also the possibility that Ford could explore the Completely Built-Up (CBU) route, considering importing the Endeavour from Thailand. This approach would exempt them from the homologation requirement for up to 2,500 units annually. While this strategy might lead to a considerably higher price tag compared to previous models, it could still position the Endeavour competitively within the price range of the top variants of its primary competitor, the Toyota Fortuner. Notably, Fortuner prices experienced a significant surge after the discontinuation of the second-generation Endeavour in 2021.
Debuting globally in 2022, the third-generation Ford Endeavour presents a more muscular and premium appearance, boasting enhanced features. Notable additions include a full-TFT instrument console, wireless charger, ventilated front seats, a larger portrait infotainment screen, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Internationally, the Ford Endeavour offers a range of engine options, featuring 2.0-litre single-turbo and twin-turbo diesel engines, along with a robust 3.0-litre V6 diesel powertrain.
