Our Top-Rated Video-Streaming Services

Killers of the Flower Moon (Apple TV+)

Oscar nominations will be announced in under two weeks and Killers of the Flower Moon is guaranteed to garner many of them. If you haven’t seen it in theaters or paid to watch it stream, now’s your chance to catch it “free” (if you pay for Apple TV+), which is probably the best place to do it since the film is just under three hours. True Detective: Night Country (Max)

The real second season mystery of True Detective was: where did all the viewers go? The third season was an improvement, but it didn’t reach the heights of the first. Now the show is back in all of the best ways. Jodie Foster is the police chief of a small Alaska town trying to solve the very creepy deaths of a team of scientists. The season is directed and mostly written by the Mexican filmmaker Issa López who’s known for her horror movie Tigers Are Not Afraid. Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project (Max)

Nikki Giovanni’s words have more power than most. The poet was a leader in the Black Arts Movement of the ’60s and her influence extends to today. This documentary about Giovanni is executive produced and narrated by Taraji P. Henson who’ll likely receive an Oscar nomination for her role as Shug Avery in The Color Purple. Self Reliance (Hulu)

Self Reliance is written and directed by Jake Johnson and produced by The Lonely Island so it’s meant to be funny. But it’s also a romcom. And maybe a thriller. And definitely a commentary on reality TV and how it can get a little too close to Squid Game. Johnson’s character is a loner who can win a million dollars and remain living, as long as he adheres to the one rule of a show he’s recruited for: Never spend a moment alone. Echo (Disney+)

Echo was a villain in Hawkeye but in this show, she’s the hero of her story. The events take place after she’s shot her “uncle,” the Kingpin of crime. Echo heads back to her hometown of Tamaha, Oklahoma, to plot how to take over empire and avoid her family.Criminal Record (Apple TV+)

The British know how to do a crime drama and when they’ve put Peter Capaldi in one, it’s even stronger. Criminal Record stars Capaldi as an older detective who clashes with a younger, Black woman colleague over their differing conclusions about a case that was supposedly solved long ago.

Ted (Peacock)

If you’ve watched Ted and Ted 2, you know Ted is smarter than your average (teddy) bear. That turns out to be because he went to high school with his pal John Bennett. This series is a Mark Wahlberg-free prequel to the movies. Bluey (Disney+)

If you’ve got the winter blues, what better way to chase them away than with new episodes of Bluey. There are 10 new episodes with Australia’s favorite canines on Disney+.
