Now that the 40-series Super refresh is here, you may be wondering how RTX 4070 Ti Super vs RTX 4080 looks, especially given the buffs to the specs of the new 4070 Ti Super. Luckily for you, we’ve got all that information in one place – just before you go ahead and figure out where to buy the 4070 Ti Super. Early on, it looks like a promising SKU that could be mega popular – especially given the fact that the RTX 4080 didn’t really live up to expectations in terms of sales.
The 4070 Ti Super release date is more or less here, so let’s jump into all the details just below to understand how these two match up. Even though the Super can be seen as a straight replacement for the 4070 Ti, it actually gets close to what the RTX 4080 offers, so we wonder which one is better value for money.

By taking a closer look at the RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 Ti Super specs we can get a clearer understanding how these two compare. At first glance, they look quite similar. The RTX 4080 still has the edge overall though, with more CUDA cores and higher memory bandwidth, though it does consume more power with 35W higher TDP.
However, the Super edition of the 4070 Ti brings it up to the same 16GB VRAM we see as the RTX 4080, which is an improvement over the vanilla 4070 Ti’s 12GB VRAM. As we found out in our 4070 Ti vs 4070 Ti Super comparison, the memory upgrades are the most substantial. The Super now matches the RTX 4080 on memory bus width as well. The 4070 Ti Super still holds on to a slightly higher boost clock speed as well, but this can always differ slightly based on whether you get an overclocked model or do some GPU overclocking yourself.
Ada Lovelace architecture
One thing to mention is that both of these GPUs make use of Nvidia’s 40-series GPU architecture: Ada Lovelace. AI-based optimization and graphics features are a big part of this architecture thanks to technology such as DLSS – which is now at version 3.5. Previously, DLSS 3 was only available for the 40-series cards, but the 3.5 upgrade brings the tech to all RTX models, including these two of course. Improvements to Nvidia’s Tensor Cores and RT enable this to deliver the best raytracing performance and AI upscaling tech we’ve seen to date.
RTX 4070 Ti Super vs RTX 4080 performance
Both of these high-end cards performance exceptionally well, but you can always expect the RTX 4080 to come out on top due to its superior specs. Given the memory improvements of the 4070 Ti Super, it should be better for high resolution gaming at 4K as well.
However, Techspot’s review of the RTX 4070 Ti Super reveals a 12 game average of 68 FPS at 4K and 120 FPS at 1440p. Compare that to the RTX 4080’s average of 111 FPS and 189 FPS in 4K and 1440p respectively, and we can see that the improvements to the specs haven’t really done the Super too much of a favor as we’d hope.
Our own review of the RTX 4080 shows that the card performs really well across a number of games. One example below, Cyberpunk 2077, shows that the SKU we tested offers over 120 FPS at 1440p, but the game remains punishing at 4K with just 51 FPS clocked on average, and that’s before ray tracing is involved. Techspot’s review for the 4070 Ti Super show 107 FPS at 1440p and 53 FPS at 4K when playing at high quality, rather than our ultra settings benchmark, so the RTX 4080 is still clearly in the lead here.

Both of these GeForce cards can make the most of AI upscaling and frame generation tech to help push framerates higher in either case, at the cost of some visual fidelity and input lag.
Is the RTX 4080 more expensive than the RTX 4070 Ti Super?
As you’d probably understand, the RTX 4080 is just a step above the RTX 4070 Ti Super – and therefore more expensive. Back when the RTX 4080 launched, many people weren’t too happy with the pricing at all. In terms of MSRP, the RTX 4080 sits at $1,199, whereas the RTX 4070 Ti Super is priced at $799 – the same as the 4070 Ti’s original launch price.
Of course, prices can vary a massive amount depending on availability, model (Founders Edition or custom AIB), and region. Based on the prices above though, the 4070 Ti Super looks to be the best value for money if you’re sticking to 1440p.
Should you buy RTX 4070 Ti Super or RTX 4080?
Like we said just above, the RTX 4070 Ti Super good value for money compared to the RTX 4080. Unless we see the 4080 drastically drop in price in the coming months, the already struggling GPU could be even less popular. For gaming at 1440p, we’d fully suggest the Super.
However, if you want smoother raw performance at 4K, the RTX 4080 is the clear favorite here across a wider range of games. The problem is, if you’re going to spend all that money, why not just go all out and get the RTX 4090 instead?

RTX 4070 Ti Super vs RTX 4080 FAQs

Does RTX 4080 have more VRAM than 4070 Ti Super?

Both the RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4080 have 16GB GDDR6X VRAM, although the 4080 does make the most of it with higher memory bandwidth.

Should I upgrade to RTX 4070 Ti Super or RTX 4080?

The RTX 4070 Ti Super is the cheaper option between the two and we think it offers better value for money, especially at 1440p. It performs fairly well at 4K as well, but the RTX 4080 still outshines it at the higher resolution considerably.
