New specs and feature details continue to emerge for the rumored Nikon Z6 III full-frame mirrorless camera.
With features including 6K Raw at up to 60 frames per second and 8-stop vibration reduction taken from the Nikon Zf, this third-generation Z6 looks to be the best yet. If it’s true that is.
The surmised specs laid out by Nikon Rumors, are believed to include support for 6K60p Raw through Nikon’s optimized N-Raw codec, and perhaps laying to rest the speculation that Nikon will opt for the mid-performance N-Log instead.
Other features include 4K120 (cropped) or 4K60 using ProRes RAW, all thanks to the initial detail of incorporating two Expeed 7 image processors and a 24.5-pixel backside illuminated (BSI) image sensor.
The camera also could capture 14-bit Raw at up to 20 frames per second when shooting still images and is also believed to enjoy a max shutter speed of 1/16000 of a second.
The Z 6 III is also believed to have a 299-point autofocus system and the same 8-stop vibration reduction system used in the Nikon Zf.
Dimensionally, the Z6 III is rumored to be about 3-5mm longer and a few mm thicker to accommodate the redesigned pull-out, articulating LCD screen, and has an overall height of about 2.3mm.
This makes the Z6 III roughly 30-40g heavier than the previous Z6 II, with an improved LCD, higher resolution 5.76 million dot electronic viewfinder, and CF Express and SD memory card slots. The camera is also believed to be powered by a Nikon EN-EL15 rechargeable battery.
Other rumored features include a PSAM dial, 120 fps still image burst shooting, and grip and button layouts that are more ergonomic. Many are speculating that the camera has been referred to as a “mini Z8” due to its overall design changes, which users say have been inherited from Nikon’s flagship mirrorless camera.
Nikon Rumors also hint that this “MiniZ8” has a few other features coming but there aren’t any details that have emerged just yet. And yet, the Z6 III will still keep the spirit of its previous model by handing over some button layouts and the iconic Nikon command dial.
To date, there is no word on specifically when Nikon plans to introduce the Z6 III to the photographic world, however with CP+ in Japan coming in February, the timing could be ripe for Nikon to hit the hype machine pretty hard, and if history is any indication, they will also be bringing a Nikon Z7 III along with it.
As usual, though, only time will tell. In the meantime, it may be a good idea to keep checking the links below to see if the Mk. II models go on sale.
