OFG Customs – a sibling company of rental house Old Fast Glass – has recently introduced a custom-made adapter designed specifically for the recently launched Cooke’s SP3 25mm T2.4 lens. The adapter screws onto the front of the lens, turning it into an 18.5mm T2.4.Old Fast Glass is a well-established, LA-based rental house that supplies productions with high-end cinema equipment. Their vast catalog of vintage and modern lenses is quite impressive and even includes custom-made solutions developed in-house by the OFG team. The company has decided to make their creations available to a wider public, such as other rental houses and cinematographers worldwide, under the name of OFG Customs. The Cooke SP3 18.5mm Custom Adapter is the first product of this ‘new’-born company. Let’s take a look!OFG Customs Cooke SP3 18.5mm adapter. The series consists of five focal lengths – 25, 32, 50, 75, and 10mm T2.4. As you can tell, the lack of a wider option can be quite limiting for some cinematographers. And here’s where OFG Customs comes in.Co-developed with Duclos Lenses, their custom adapter can be mounted directly to the front of the original Cooke SP3 25mm T2.4 via its 64mm filter thread. The combination of the two parts results in a widened field of view that is equivalent to that of an 18.5mm lens.OFG Customs Cooke SP3 18.5mm adapter. It features an aluminum housing and, according to the company, it includes glass components that provide a “perfect balance of image sharpness, flatness of field, and flare character”, while still holding true to the original look of the lens.Although I couldn’t find information on the actual size and weight of the adapter, it seems to be pretty large compared to the lens itself, which kind of defeats the purpose of using SP3 lenses. Nonetheless, it still represents a pretty unique addition to complement the series, as you can tell from the sample image below.Image shot with OFG Customs Cooke SP3 18.5mm adapter and Sony a7S III.
