Sony recently released a firmware update for their Sony a6700 APS-C mirrorless camera, version 1.03, that fixes multiple video recording issues, including recording and timecode issues. This firmware update is now available to download on Sony’s website or via the Creators’ App, so let’s take a closer look at it! The Sony a6700 was released in July 2023, and the very least we can say about it is that this compact and lightweight mirrorless camera has much to offer. In a nutshell, the camera can record internally to SD cards in 4K at up to 120 frames per second, oversampled from the 6K full-frame readout, or in FullHD up to 240p, using XAVC S, XAVC S-I, and XAVC HS video codecs. Also, the a6700 includes the famous S-Log 3 gamma curve, and it supports custom LUTs. The camera is also packed with multiple AI features, such as Auto-Framing, a feature that was first introduced with the ZV-E1.If you missed it, you can learn more about the camera in our Lab Test. The Sony a6700 performed pretty well thanks to its All-I 4:2:2 10-bit codec.Sony a6700 firmware update version 1.03Sony continues to listen to user feedback carefully, and they recently released a firmware update for the a6700 that fixes numerous bugs and issues, including:Corrects an issue where the movie recordings weren’t recorded under certain shooting conditions.Fixes an issue where the camera could restart if many faces were simultaneously recognized when shooting movies. After a power restart, the timecode wasn’t always retained; it’s now a story of the past.Improves the exposure stability when using extended ISO during movie recordings.Overall, the firmware update should improve the stability of the camera. As you can tell, this is not a groundbreaking firmware update, but hey, it’s better than nothing, and having a stable/reliable camera is, at least for me, more important than the number of features it has.The firmware update version 1.03 for the Sony a6700 can be downloaded directly on Sony’s website here. Furthermore, if you have the Sony Creators’ App, which is available for Android and Apple smartphones, you can download the software update directly from the App and update your camera. What do you think about this firmware update for the Sony a6700?
