If ever there was a camera my girlfriend could get excited about, this would be it. Lomography has announced a new Lomo’Instant Automat (buy here) to celebrate the life and work of Austrian symbolist painter, Gustav Klimt.
The camera is essentially the same as the other Lomo’Instant Automat cameras, other than its appearance. It comes with wide angle, fisheye, close-up, and “Splitzer” attachments, offering a range of looks for your Instax prints.
Who is Gustav Klimt?
Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter. He is renowned for his intricate, decorative style and his influence on the Vienna Secession movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born on July 14, 1862 in Baumgarten Vienna, Klimt was the second of seven children.
He received formal training at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts. His early work primarily involved murals and ceiling paintings in large public buildings. However, his artistic vision soon evolved with a more personal and symbolic approach.
Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, Gustav Klimt
Klimt is best known for his “Golden Phase,” where his works often featured elaborate gold leaf and intricate patterns. During this period, he created some of his most iconic pieces, including “The Kiss” and “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I“.
It’s the “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I” that covers the front of the new Lomography Lomo’Instant Automat Klimt Gold Leaf edition. And like Gustav Klimt, Lomography is also based in Vienna, Austria.
Lomo’Instant Automat Klimt Gold Leaf edition
Lomography’s been releasing quite a few bright and colourful editions of some of their cameras lately. In February, we saw two new colours of Lomography Sprocket Rocket. And last month we got a new beach-themed LomoApparat 35mm camera.
The new Kilmt Gold Leaf edition of the Lomo’Instant Automat is just the latest to see an aesthetic makeover. It’s still the camera we all know and love underneath, though.
It has a field of view to a 60mm lens on a full-frame camera, but also comes with wide angle, fisheye and close-up attachments to let you switch things up a bit. It also includes the company’s Splitzer attachment, allowing you to mask off parts of the frame for multiple exposures.
It captures images onto Fujifilm Instax Mini instant film (buy here), which provides 46 x 62 mm prints with the familiar frame around them. It features a built-in flash with shutter speeds from 1/125s to 8s in Auto Mode and 30 seconds in bulb mode.
