Rumors Tip Sub-$500 iPhone SE 4 With Bigger Screen, Face ID

[ad_1]

The iPhone rumor mill has mostly focused on the iPhone 16, but Apple is also reportedly looking to revamp its “low cost” iPhone SE.Last week, The Information reported that Apple is prepping a “thinner iPhone” for 2025, and this week, leaker Revegnus tweeted that the fourth-gen iPhone SE will either remain at $429 or see a 10% bump in price, which would still keep it under the $500 mark. That tweet and the Revegnus account has since been deleted, but The Information reports that the new iPhone SE may look more like the iPhone 14, with a 6.7-inch OLED screen versus the 4.7-inch display on the current iteration, which came out in 2022. The new version could upgrade to USB-C, swap the Touch ID button for Face ID, and add an Action button. At under $500, that would be an enticing offer for people who can’t spend $1,000 or more on the latest flagship iPhone, especially since the cost seems to keep going up. Apple intends to keep the price down by reusing old panels from existing suppliers. MacRumors says the plan is to buy screens from existing suppliers at around $25 a piece. Bidding for the job has reportedly been going on since August 2023 and includes BOE and Tianma. Samsung reportedly dropped out due to alleged pricing issues.

Apple hasn’t made any announcements, and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple may even cancel the iPhone SE 4 due to low demand for the last generation.
