Feelworld has announced the new Feelworld S7 (buy here) field monitor. This 7″ touchscreen IPS display device is essentially an SDI version of the company’s L7 field monitor ($309.99) for HDMI users. But it comes with that same durable aluminium exterior.
While it accepts HDMI and SDI signals all the way up to 4K UHD and 4K DCI, the display itself is 1920×1200 resolution. For a 7″ monitor, this is still plenty enough to check focus and composition, and pretty standard for monitors of this size.
Feelworld S7 – Rugged 12G SDI Field Monitor
When the Feelworld L7 was introduced, it was a turning point for the company. It was very similar to the Feelworld LUT7, but it was the first display the company made using an aluminium housing instead of plastic. It brought them into the territory of daily professional abuse on real sets.
The L7, however, only supported HDMI inputs. With many cinema cameras preferring SDI, it was looked over. Now, the Feelworld S7 introduces 12G-SDI to the durable monitor for use on movie and TV sets around the world.
It has 10-bit (8+2) colour depth, HDMI and 12G-SDI in and out both support up to 4K UHD or DCI video at up to 60 frames per second. Additionally, there’s a 3G-SDI output at 1080p up to 60 frames per second. You also get cross-conversion, allowing you to feed 12G-SDI in and HDMI out to something like a video switcher or recorder.
Units can be powered by a pair of NP-F batteries or through the 7-24v DC input jack. An optional V-mount plate is available, but you can also use a D-Tap cable to connect to that DC input jack.
Price and Availability
The Feelworld S7 is available to buy now for $599.99 and has already begun shipping. If you don’t need SDI and HDMI will do, the Feelworld L7 is still available for $309.99.
