A photoshoot near train tracks in western Mexico has ended in tragedy. Model Cinthya Nayeli Higareda Bermejo, 30, originally from Venezuela, was killed after her clothes became entangled in a passing high-speed train.

“Based on the information we have so far, the victim was taking part in a photo shoot with a person we have already interviewed and some other witnesses at the scene,” said Jalisco State prosecutor Joaquín Méndez Ruiz. “Everything indicates it was an accident. She got too close to the train as it was passing. The force apparently managed to pull her clothes towards it and that’s what caused her death.”

Emergency services arrived at the scene but were unable to revive Bermejo. Ruiz confirmed the incident is being investigated as an accident. Witnesses, including the photographer, have provided statements to police.

This terrible incident highlights the dangers of trespassing on train tracks. We’ve covered other incidents before, one of them ending tragically. To add to the danger, you can’t hear the train coming until it’s nearly on top of you, and then, it’s already too late.

Operation Lifesaver, a rail safety non-profit, reports hundreds of injuries and fatalities every year in the US alone due to trespassing on train tracks. They urge professional photographers to avoid using railroad tracks as a backdrop for photoshoots. “Whether you have five or 5 million followers, it’s important to know that being near tracks and trains is dangerous and illegal,” the organization writes. “It’s never worth the risk.”
