Here’s some heartwarming news from the world of videography. An 8-year-old girl from Indiana, USA, won the 2023 Best New Drone Pilot Award at the AZDroneFest International Film Festival. This brought her the title of the world’s youngest female drone videographer at the age of 8 years and 258 days.

“I asked for a drone as a gift because I love science, and it seemed like a fun way to explore the world from a different viewpoint,” Louisa tells the Guinness World Records about the beginning of her journey. She asked for a DJI Mini 2 (here) for Christmas, and her parents apparently recognized her passion. Needless to say, she was even younger when she started her hobby. She has traveled with her family to many different places, which further helped her to hone her skills.

After watching videos on the Guinness World Records YouTube channel, Louisa was inspired to pursue a world record. Her film Dangerous Plants won awards at several international film festivals, including the Thunderbird Drone Festival, Bloomington International Film Festival, and the Arizona Drone Film Festival. As already mentioned, the AZDroneFest was the one to secure her the Guinness World Records title.

“Understanding how to safely fly the drone in different countries and locations was tough,” Louisa tells the Guinness World Records. “You have to be very aware of your surroundings to avoid airports and obstacles like power lines or trees.” Apparently, she successfully dealt with all the obstacles and learned the rules of flying a drone safely. She says she was very excited to learn about winning the World Record and that all her friends and family are proud of her. And how can they not be? 🙂
