A good flagship will generally stay relevant for a few years, and as the new model gets announced, the question inevitably arises – Do I spend more for the latest hotness, or is last year’s model a better buy?
That’s exactly what our new video aims to answer. We pit the newer Xperia 1 VI against last year’s Xperia 1 V to see whether there’s a point in splurging a bit more for the former or not.
This comparison is interesting since Sony has introduced some radical design changes to the 2024 model. Gone is the signature extra tall aspect ratio of the display and really the entire phone. While the Xperia 1 V is rocking a cinematic 21:9 panel, the new Xperia 1 VI went for a more “traditional” 19.5:9 one. This change in itself makes for a very different device and is definitely worth considering.
Of course, the newer model benefits from Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. But, honestly, last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 still has plenty of power, and generally speaking, feature-wise, not a lot has actually changed going from the Xperia 1 V to the Xperia 1 VI. The telephoto camera has been revamped slightly, but in some cases, last year’s setup still produces better-quality shots. All the more reason to carefully consider both options and make a personal decision.
If you’re interested in taking an even deeper dive into the differences between these two phones, take a look at our written comparison. Then, if one of them caught your eye, make sure you read our reviews – here’s the one of the Xperia 1 VI, and here’s the one of the Xperia 1 V.
