Nikon Teases Rumored Z6 III for June 17th Announcement

[ad_1]

Nikon is hinting at a new camera announcement scheduled for June 17, 2024. The Nikon “Ready to Perform” event suggests a new camera, rumored to be the Z6III.
This camera promises to have an expanded dynamic range and color gamut, targeting content creators. Interestingly, the announcement doesn’t seem to feature its counterpart, the Z7III.

In the past, Nikon has released two cameras simultaneously. For instance, the Z6 was launched alongside the Z7 in 2018, and the Z6II debuted with the Z7II in 2020.
Due to the impact of COVID-19 and the global chip shortage, 2022 passed without any new releases from Nikon. However, signs now point to the imminent announcement of at least one new Nikon mirrorless camera.

Rumors about these new cameras emerged from a repair listing on Nikon Germany’s service website. The listing included third-generation cameras alongside the Z8 and Z9.
This listing was subsequently clarified as a “keyword error” by Google, which heightened speculation and anticipation around these cameras.
Nikon further fueled the rumors by releasing a teaser video, with content creators praising a new camera with improved dynamic range and color gamut.
However, the teaser only showed a single camera, leading many to speculate that this time, the Z6 III may be unveiled alone, without its mirrorless counterpart. Despite the expectations for significant improvements, many anticipate only minor updates.

Speculations suggest that the Z6 III, also referred to as Nikon model N2214, will feature a new 24.5 backside-illuminated (BSI) image sensor designed for expanded low light performance and dynamic range.
Paired with the latest Expeed 7 processor, the sensor is expected to capture 12-bit full-frame NRaw camera files at 6K resolution and 30 fps. Additionally, it may support 6K ProRes RAW at up to 60 fps and FullHD in an 8-bit crop at up to 240 fps.
Autofocus is anticipated to feature up to 297 points with nearly 100% coverage of the entire full frame. An improved algorithm is expected to rival the higher-end Z8/Z9 cameras.
The Z6 III is also expected to include 7-8 stops vibration reduction (VR) image stabilization technology similar to the one found in the Zf mirrorless system.
Other features include both mechanical and electronic shutters, capable of 14 fps bursts mechanically and 20 fps electronically, both in 14-bit RAW image files.
JPEGs may also be captured in bursts of up to 120 fps, according to rumors. Video recording time is estimated to be between 37-120 minutes, depending on the chosen codec, and the camera will write original camera files to either a CFExpress or SD memory card.
The camera may also feature a high-resolution 5.76 million dot electronic viewfinder, an improved vari-angle LCD screen, and a new cooling design for more effective heat dissipation, resulting in a slightly heftier size, but with a better ergonomic feel in the hand.
Pricing and Availability
Rumors suggest a price of €3,000, but it could be cheaper in the US. Additionally, Nikon is expected to discontinue the Z6II by the end of the year and offer discounts to clear inventory before the anticipated mid-July shipping date of the Z6III.
Currently, the Z6II is on sale for $400 off at B&H.
The online presentation on June 17, 2024, will reveal how many of these speculated features are accurate. As for the fate of the Z7III, only time will tell.
