Apple’s WWDC is right around the corner, where it’s expected to finally reveal what it has up its sleeve on the artificial intelligence front. An open question was what name the company would choose for its technology, and it appears it’s going to simply co-opt the AI terminology entirely and call it Apple Intelligence.According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple Intelligence will debut next week and be included in the next generation of Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and Mac operating systems. Apple is also reportedly partnering with OpenAI to provide Apple users with a ChatGPT-style chatbot. AI will account for approximately half of Apple’s WWDC presentation, Gurman says.It’ll be the culmination of years of work for Apple. The company was already well into AI as of 2020 when news came out that it had purchased more AI companies than any other big tech firm at the time. Most of the acquisitions were to help Siri perform better but some were in anticipation of the AI wave to come. On Monday, it’s expected that Apple will roll some of its new AI smarts into Siri, which has limped along in the voice assistant space. Rumors about Apple Intelligence include reports that it will run entirely on the device without an internet connection, which isn’t always available with other AI efforts.
