Apple is reportedly planning to launch an “all-screen” M5 MacBook in 2026.According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple originally planned to launch the 20.3-inch MacBook in 2027; however, it has moved the timeline up to 2026.As you might imagine, a lot of the details about the new laptop are up in the air. Kuo says that multiple foldable screen options are on the table, and while he currently expects the device to sport a 20.3-inch screen, it could end up at 18.8 inches.”The difference between these two sizes is their folded form factor, corresponding to the design of 14–15″ and 13–14″ laptops, respectively,” Kuo writes in a Medium post.According to Kuo, “Apple aims to make the panel as crease-free as possible, requiring high design specifications for both the panel and the hinge. As a result, the cost of the panel and hinge is very high. Current preliminary estimates put the panel and hinge costs at around $600–650 and $200–250, respectively.”

With those high costs, the laptop itself is also likely to be expensive. “Unless Apple can significantly improve yields and reduce costs before mass production, the BOM cost of the foldable MacBook could approach that of the current Vision Pro,” Kuo says. (Apple’s headset starts at $3,499.)In addition to that all-screen display, the MacBook is anticipated to have an M5 series chip. That said, the device is still currently at a rumor stage.
