Canon has released new firmware updates for its popular EOS R5 and R3 Mirrorless Cameras.
These updates are focused on improving the camera’s performance, storage, and lens support, and also address several previous issues and annoyances.
The Canon EOS R5 Firmware version 2.0 enables servo zooming through remote control when using the EOS Utility or Camera Connect software.

This feature requires a Canon Power Zoom Adapter PS-E2 or E2B and a compatible lens. The update also allows for CF Express media storage options up to 2TB when using cards larger than 2TB.
Firmware version 2.0.0 also fixes some minor issues and addresses an issue that could cause the camera to restart slowly when the Auto Power Off is enabled and the camera goes to sleep.
An issue where the image displayed in the viewfinder or on the LCD screen creates an error code 70 to be displayed, with the camera stopping to operate, has also been resolved.
In case the error message persists, users should remove and reinsert the battery and restart the camera. If the message still persists, the camera may need to be sent to an authorized repair center.

The Canon EOS R3 mirrorless camera receives the same improvements as the R5, plus enhanced security for file transfer protocol (FTPS) connections when uploading images and video files wirelessly.
The R3’s firmware update also addresses issues such as a problem with the camera’s Mobile File Transfer function when connecting to an iPhone with USB 3.0 or higher.
There is also an issue that causes the camera to stop operating when using GPS, and a situation where Error Code 70 pops up when using anti-flicker mode at a shutter speed of 1 second or higher.
Overall, these firmware updates aim to enhance the performance and reliability of Canon’s EOS R5 and R3 Mirrorless Cameras, making them more user-friendly for photographers and videographers.
Download and installation
Users can download EOS R5 Firmware v. 2.0.0 from the R5’s support site under the firmware tab. Likewise, the EOS R3 Firmware v. 1.7.1 can be downloaded from the R3’s support site. New cameras moving forward will likely have the firmware preinstalled.
