Google is testing a new feature designed to help users improve their conversational English skills.“Speaking practice” is currently available in Argentina, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and Venezuela for those who have joined Google’s Search Labs, TechCrunch reports.Search Labs offers early access to Google Search experiences before they’re released to the general public. Its goal with this particular tool is to help users improve their conversational English skills by completing exercises powered by artificial intelligence. Presumably, completing the exercises will help them incorporate new words and phrases into everyday conversations so they’re better prepared to speak to a human rather than a bot in the future.As opposed to other language-learning apps, Google’s Speaking practice will ask people to respond to open-ended questions—such as “What should I do to get into shape?”—to foster more natural conversations. The feature is currently in the test phase. Google has not announced when it might be integrated into Search or expand to other markets.Speaking practice was first spotted by X user @hofxr, who shared screenshots:

Last year, Google added another language-focused search feature that provided feedback on clarity and grammar from spoken queries. “Speaking practice” is similar; however, it focuses more on having a back-and-forth conversation than evaluating one-off queries.
