Here’s Why Android Users Might Not Be Able To Use iMessage Through Beeper

[ad_1]

Beeper Mini, the app that promised to offer iMessage on Android and did so beautifully for a couple of days, is officially giving up on the dream of bringing blue bubbles to Android users.

Over the last few days, the app has repeatedly come up with workarounds to bypass the restrictions put in place by Apple. However, in a blog post published on December 21, 2023, the platform officially announced that it was giving up.

Beeper Has Released An iMessage Workaround For The Last Time

“As much as we want to fight for what we believe is a fantastic product that really should exist, the trust is that we can’t win a cat-and-mouse game with the largest company on earth,” says Beeper in the official blog post.

Instead, the platform is going to focus on its “long-term goal of building the best chat app on earth.” It’s not like Beeper didn’t try. In fact, the same day, the app came up with a new solution to its problem.

With our latest software release, we believe we’ve created something that Apple can tolerate existing. We do not have any current plans to respond if this solution is knocked offline. The iMessage connection software that powers Beeper Mini is now 100% open source. Anyone who…— Beeper (@onbeeper) December 21, 2023

For Beeper Mini To Work, Users Must Have An Old iPhone Or Mac

Another blog post published on December 21, 2023, explains that Beeper’s latest solution fixes and stabilizes the “iMessage situation for Beeper Cloud and Mini users.”

For the app to work, users will need access to an old iPhone, Mac computer, or find a friend with a Mac. “While we understand that this solution will not work for everyone, please know that we’re doing our best given the circumstances.”

Users must do so in order to get their iMessage registration code, which is mandatory to use Beeper Mini on an Android phone. However, the only problem with this solution is that users would need to always leave the old iPhone or Mac plugged into power and Wi-Fi.

For users who don’t have an old Apple device, Beeper suggests either asking a friend or renting a device and offers to provide devices on rent itself if there is enough interest for the service next year.

If This Workaround Falls, Beeper Mini Doesn’t Have Anything In Store

However, if the Cupertino-based tech giant responds with a block to the workaround, Beeper Mini is pretty much done. “Each time that Bepper Mini goes down or is made to be unreliable due to interference by Apple, Beeper’s credibility takes a hit.”

The app has also open-sourced the iMessage bridge so developers or Apple can review the code and determine whether the service is secure enough. Even though Beeper believes the iPhone maker could tolerate this update, if it shuts Beeper Mini again, the dream of every Android user to send blue bubbles is over, at least for now.
