Twitter founder Jack Dorsey is no longer on the board of Bluesky.Dorsey announced Bluesky in 2019 when he was still the CEO of Twitter. At the time he said Twitter was “funding a small independent team of up to five open source architects, engineers, and designers to develop an open and decentralized standard for social media.”On Saturday, Dorsey posted on X about grants from his philanthropic Start Small initiative, which prompted one user on the platform to ask if Dorsey was still on the Bluesky board. Dorsey answered with a simple “no.”

Dorsey didn’t elaborate, but Bluesky published the following statement after the exchange:”We sincerely thank Jack for his help in funding and initiating the Bluesky project. Today, Bluesky is thriving as an open-source social network running on atproto, the decentralized protocol we have built. With Jack’s departure, we are searching for a new board member for the Bluesky public benefit company who shares our commitment to building a social network that puts people in control of their experience. More to come!”Neither Dorsey nor Bluesky have indicated when or why Dorsey left the board; however, Dorsey’s Bluesky account was closed eight months ago.
