Jeep has finally launched its first electric vehicle, the 2024 Wagoneer S.The premium SUV hits dealers this fall with a hefty $71,995 price tag (including destination charges), but it will qualify for the federal tax credit. It remains to be seen whether it will get the full $7,500 or the $3,750 half-credit, but buyers should check out state incentives, as well as leasing promotions.

For the price, drivers get premium interiors, loads of tech, and some impressive performance stats. The Wagoneer S offers over 300 miles of range and 99 combined MPGe. It’s powerful and quick to accelerate, with 600 horsepower, 617 lb.-ft. of torque, and a 3.4-second 0-60 time. All these stats come courtesy of the newly developed STLA frame battery platform, which Stellantis engineered to be a scalable pack for its future EV lineup.”Jeep brand designers and engineers flexed the STLA Large platform to adjust the length, width, suspension, and powertrain configurations to tailor it specifically for the Jeep Wagoneer S to deliver instant torque and lightning-quick acceleration,” Jeep says. The Wagoneer S charges from 20-80% on a public fast charger in 23 minutes. That’s quick, but Jeep also chose to report its charging stat from 20-80% instead of the more common 10-80%, likely to shave off some time. Happily, each vehicle comes with either a free 48-amp level 2 home charger or public charging credits through Stellantis’ Free2move Charge app.

A combined 45 inches of screen space puts pixels in each corner of the cabin, including a 10-inch HUD display on the windshield, a 10.25-inch front passenger screen with HDMI connectivity, and a 12.3-inch central display. Jeep improved the clarity and responsiveness of the central touch screen, boosting the “readability of maps, cameras, and widgets.” The cabin also includes a couple of phone charge ports and a wireless charging pad.A slew of self-driving features come standard, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and autonomous parking assist.

For those eager to try out the Wagoneer S, note that only a more premium “Launch Edition” version is available this fall. It features more premium styling, “exclusively outfitted with elegant dark accent cues” plus 20-inch glossy black wheels. Overhead, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof provides an “open-air experience.”To exit the vehicle, drivers activate the electronic door releases with a “light touch of the thumb.”
