Microsoft is testing out including ads to the Start menu within Windows 11.Ads will appear in the Recommended section of the start menu, a spot typically reserved for file recommendations. Now instead, the section will suggest apps from the Microsoft Store.Currently, the ads will only appear for Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel in the United States and will only appear on consumer devices, not devices managed by an organization. If you’d rather not see the ads you can also turn them off by going to Settings > Personalization > Start and turning off the toggle for “Show recommendations for tips, app promotions, and more”In a blog post announcing the test, Microsoft added a reminder that it regularly tests out new experiences and concepts that may never get released. Those who do test out the feature are being asked to provide feedback on how and if they like it.The experience will be available for a small amount of Insiders in the Beta Channel first. This isn’t the first time Microsoft has experimented with new places to put ads. In March of last year, the company tested out including ads in File Explorer.
