Curious about NYX Duck Plump High Pigment Plumping Lipgloss? Well, sit down, relax, and read this review. NYX Duck Plump High Pigment Plumping Lipgloss ($13) is a fairly new plumping lipgoss available in 18 shades. This formula launched in November for the Holiday 2023/Spring 2024 season and later got a big push with Cardi B featured in a Super Bowl Commercial. Maybelline Lifter Plump Lip Plumping Gloss had launched a smidge earlier but NYX dropped right in with their version soon after and a formula that was using spicy ginger versus chili pepper to plump.
A word to the wise if you’re sensitive this formula isn’t for you but if you’ve lived through the Duwop age (IYKYK) you should have no problem handling this lipgloss. Proceed forward with caution.
NYX Duck Plump High Pigment Plumping Lipgloss arrives in a similar squat little barrel almost like the NYX Fat Oil Lip Drip Vegan Lip Oil. They do have different applicators with the Lip Oil have a more standard applicator and the Duck Plump having a more tapered one. As you may know from reading my Lip Drip review I dislike the applicator but the Duck Plump one is just fine and loads up well with gloss. It’s 0.22 oz in size and $13 and if you’re comparing it to Maybelline Lifter Plump that formula is $12.99 and 0.18 oz. This formula seems to either fall into the love it or hate it group of people. I actually like it a lot but I can see why others might not especially sensitive users.
This formula is thick but manages to not be sticky but it still is goopy but not tacky either. My best tip for application is to remove the applicator from the barrel and you have plenty of space at the rim to gently scrap the sides of the applicator against it to remove excess gloss. This allows for a thin application that you can build on. I feel right out of the barrel you end up WITH A LOT of gloss. Just scrap off the excess, apply, and go in for another layer. The thick formula does give you that duck lip look not to mention it makes you look like you had fillers. So right out of the gate you aren’t even relying on that spicy ginger to get the plumping action! It’s just the thickness of the gloss that’s giving you a ton of volume. At first, I feel no sting or tingle but wait a few seconds and it starts. I’d say it’s mild compared to products like DuWop Lipgloss. It isn’t that huge a sting but as someone who used painful plumping glosses in the past, this feels like child’s play in comparison. I think Maybelline’s formula has more of a sting! That being said, there is a sting but it only lasts for 30 or so seconds before it settles down. Did it plump more during that time? Not really. I think the magic is in the creamy, thick formula. That’s where the real volume comes from.
NYX Duck Plump High Pigment Plumping Lipgloss Swatches (Nude Swings)
Oh did I mention pigment? This gloss is crazy pigmented. I got the shade Nude Swings and it’s a warm almost pink nude that provides full color on my lips! There are clear and sheerer shades available but this isn’t one of them. This adds a ton of beautiful color to my lips.
During the wear, I had no issues with migration. I was pretty concerned since the gloss was so goopy that I’d have it moving around my lip line but it stayed happily in place for solid four hours before it started to lose some of its shine and the color began to fade. It will transfer to a cup, straw, etc though! This has no fragrance that I detected but it does taste rather bitter if you happen to get it in your mouth. It’s quite nicely hydrating as well through the wear.
Did I get duck lips from Duck Plump High Pigment Plumping Lipgloss? Absolutely. Was it because of that spicy ginger? Probably not! This is just a really thick gloss formula that left my lips looking full and plush and I can’t say I didn’t love that.

Ulta NYX
NYX Duck Plump High Pigment Plumping Lipgloss is a plumping lipgloss available in eighteen shades that uses spicy ginger to volumize lips. The glosses are 0.22 oz each and $13. This gloss comes in a squat little barrel with a tapered sponge applicator for application. I find the formula thick and creamy with full-color pigment. It does sting but it felt mild to me compared to other plumping glosses and only lasts for around 30 seconds or so. I do think that the thicker formula is what achieves the fuller, plumper, and plush look that this gives my lips and not necessarily the spicy ginger. I was quite happy with the formula as it wasn’t tacky or sticky but it was gooey. It wears for around four hours and during that wear the color doesn’t fade or shine but it does transfer if you’re sipping from a cup or straw. It has no fragrance but does have a bitter taste.
