Tidal began life as the streaming service where music sounded “best” thanks to lossless audio support at a higher cost. But other services now offer similar features for less, which may be why Tidal is consolidating its subscription tiers and lowering the price of its premium features.Starting April 10, you’ll no longer have to choose between HiFi and HiFi Plus. Instead, Tidal will offer one subscription option, which comes with nearly all the features found in HiFi Plus. But Tidal will cost just $11 per month for an individual plan, about $9 less than HiFi Plus, with features like Dolby Atmos mixes, high-res FLACs, and lossless audio for over 100 million songs.If you want a family plan, it’ll set you back $17 a month, but that’s also cheaper than Tidal’s previous $30-a-month premium family plan. But all of that does come with one notable exception: DJ integrations. That was previously included with all the plans, but will now cost an extra $10. Tidal says all paying users will automatically make the switch to the new Tidal plan, and anyone who used DJ integrations in the last 90 days will have it added to their plan. You can remove the add-on if you don’t want to pay for it.As for free users, there’s some bad news. Tidal is axing its free tier altogether. If you want to keep using the service, you’ll have to start paying after April 10. Student plans will stick around at $5 a month, but military and first responder discounts are going away.

All of this puts Tidal on similar ground to Apple Music and Amazon Music Unlimited, which both offer lossless music at the same $11 price Tidal will start charging. All three are now ahead of Spotify, which still doesn’t offer lossless music at all.
