There’s a whole passel of stuff coming to Hulu in May, including tons of really cool movies, new seasons of Fox game shows, and more. One of the most deranged reality TV experiments of all time happened in 1998, when comedian Tomoaki Hamatsu was challenged to live alone in an apartment, surviving only off things he won in mail-in sweepstakes. Unknown to Hamatsu, live cameras were on him at all times, leading to him getting the nickname “Nasubi” thanks to the cartoon eggplant superimposed over his genitals when he was nude. The Contestant recaps his ordeal and explores how it affected the world of entertainment in Japan and abroad.Die Hard Series (May 3)
All five of the Die Hard movies are hitting Hulu on the same day, and from the stone cold classic of the first one you can explore how action movies have evolved in Hollywood over the last 35+ years. With Bruce Willis now in retirement, who knows what will happen to the franchise, but you can still enjoy his glory days with these flicks. Admittedly the fifth one, A Good Day To Die Hard, is a bit of a stinker, but you can’t win them all.Birth/Rebirth (May 17)
Unsettling medical thriller Birth/Rebirth stars Marin Ireland and Judy Reyes as a pair of hospital workers who conduct an experiment to bring one of their daughters back to life after she dies unexpectedly. Needless to say, this is never a good idea, but things don’t go wrong in quite the way you’d think.
